AD&D Player Character Mermaids

I started to play Advanced Dungeons & Dragons when I was 13 yrs old in high school, and because I drew all the player characters for my group (as well as some of the key non-player characters for our Dungeon Master), my DM did not dare refuse my request to play mermaid player-characters. Some of these characters created in my teenage years served as source material for the comic characters I created in my adult years.

Mermaid With Fairy Dragon

The original pencil drawing was done (and finished!) in an exam in '87 for my most hated subject: Economics. The problem was that I really liked the teacher. When he came around to collect the papers (the other kids jeering at the fact that I had drawn a picture instead of doing the exam), he stopped somewhat taken aback, then graded me there and then. He gave me a 20% mark ... for effort, which was heartening considering I was not expecting anything (especially as this was not going to be one of my electives). I later used the drawing in an inking exercise.

Mer-Doll

My wistful yearnings to see a mermaid doll, before discovering the ability to make it myself, resulted in this painting styled after the Mattel Barbie packaging illustrations of the '80s.

Beauty And The Beast

This picture was completed as an inking exercise over the Christmas holidays after my Higher School Certificate (when I was 18). Both my sister and I have always loved the Beauty and the Beast fairy-tale. This was my first visitation to that theme.

Centaurette With Fawn

Done cause it was fun.
