2007 Sydney Mardi Gras poster art © Jozef Szekeres 2007
This is the official 2007 New Mardi Gras poster art for the event and festival held in Sydney, Australia from February to March 2007. This work was rendered in Photoshop with some traditional painting in the background. Each character is whole and complete so assortments of the seven figures can be repositioned for different advertising requirements (eg. the three female characters can be posed exclusively together for the lesbian publications). Each of the figures were completed so they could be printed life size and converted into standees at the 2007 New Mardi Gras party to be held on 3 March 2007. It's an honor to have been commissioned for this job and be part of the official Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras history.
Gay Ranger art © Jozef Szekeres 2006
Here is my "Gay Ranger", created for the back cover ad of Blue magazine (#66, December 2007). This was a rush job! Conceived, drawn, and coloured overnight, I was almost dead the next day from sleep deprivation but it was fun to work on regardless. I was the guest artist on this particular issue, and I have another six new illustrations inside accompanying various articles. If you like my work, please pick up a copy of the magazine.
China Boy art © Jozef Szekeres 2006
This is one of the full page pieces published in Blue magazine (#66, December 2006). I worked this up from a sketch I had done 2001, so it's always good to have those older pieces lying around to use when facing a tough deadline.
Darren Hayes art © Jozef Szekeres 2006
Here is Darren Hayes depicted as a pop art cartoon, giving the character that slight animation look. This was published in Blue magazine (#66, December 2006).
Michael Musto art © Jozef Szekeres 2006
Michael Musto is a New York based columnist who perceives himself as having a magical life, so I thought I'd show that in this portrait of him. This was published in Blue magazine (#66, December 2006).
Pedro Almodovar art © Jozef Szekeres 2006
A brilliant director! It was a challenge to do this man justice in a portrait. This was published in Blue magazine (#66, December 2006).
© and Aristocrat Leisure Industries 2005. Antony and Cleopatra are shown here during their golden years together. Antony was now living in Egypt with Cleopatra, and was the King consort to the Egyptian Queen. They both hold the ruling staffs of Upper and Lower Egypt. Showing their devotion to each other, Antony and Cleopatra intimately hold each other as they peruse their beloved land of Egypt. Apart from being used as Game art for Aristocrat, the company also used this art (with some printed foil adjustments/enhancements and seasons greetings) as their 2005 Christmas card.

© and Aristocrat Leisure Industries 2003. This was my first self-driven project at Aristocrat. I wanted to have my own Queen behind me at my new job, and the Queen of Sheba was it. This is also my first painted work for Aristocrat. I had a ball doing it.
© and Aristocrat Leisure Industries 2003. This is the full figure of the Queen of Sheba. The original is slightly larger than A3, painted with acrylic on heat pressed 185gms watercolor paper. This image was also used as a standee to advertise the game.

Done as a pitch for a 2D commercial. I made it clear to the animation studio that if they wanted me to do the pitch, they would have to pay me AND I would own the original painting and the copyright associated with it as well. They grumbled, but accepted. This pitch landed the job, so everyone was happy. The commercial release was a great success and is still showing four years after its first screening.
Done as a centrefold for the 24 hour comic featuring the stories and art of Australian comic creators Alex Major, and Daniel MacGregor. The characters in the piece are the major players in the two unrelated stories. I tried to link them thematically, ever so tenuously via the painting which they are fighting over.
