DAWN: Return of the Goddess #3

By Joseph Michael Linsner.

Gorgeous Linsner art, the contemporary master good girl artist. Sirius, 1999. Dawn picks up her sword again, determined to cut a bloody path to Lucifer. She hacks and slashes her way into his stronghold and demands the Prince of Lies to tell why her followers are being slain. And she discovers who's really been pulling the strings. Includes a stunning backup tale (we thought it was Linsner's work at first) by Jozef Szekeres, 1999.

Recommended.

ElfQuest: WaveDancers #4

In a Flash: Barmek and Sleia encounter the real Raenafel and confirm their suspicions that something is rotten back home.

Is it Worth it: I'll confess I've never been completely enamored with the fantasy that the Pinis obviously enjoy, but I found the first three issues of WaveDancers to be an enjoyable, lighthearted read, with a nice blend of humor and intrigue. Perhaps it's the sudden emphasis on exposition, but WD#4 seems rather listless and meandering by comparison.

The Good: Szekeres' art walks a line between the Pinis and Disney's Little Mermaid without being derivative of either. Nice coloring, too. A real treat.

The Bad: Maybe a little less background and a little more intrigue - or maybe I'm just getting impatient.

The Ugly: Are you kidding? Everyone is beautiful!
(July 1994)
